Day one of the IKO Kyokushin 12th World Open Championships began in Tokyo, Japan this Friday with competitors from the Open and Elite divisions ready for action.
As is the tradition at the Quadrennial World Tournament the event started in the morning with the march on ceremony. Included in the ceremony were some two hundred of the worlds top competitors from several nations. Included in the ceremony was the opening drum, the fighters pledge as well as the Japanese National anthem. It is customary for one of the fighters to pledge good spirt and self-discipline on behalf of the fighters.
The opening day also included speeches from Chairman of the IKO Kancho Shokei Matsui and a special word of welcome from the Chairman of the JKF (Japanese Karate Federation) Mr Takashi Sasagwa.
