Day one of the International Karate Organisation KyokushinKai12th World Open saw the first round of the Open World Championships followed by the Elite World Championships. The majority of Team Soth Africa were scheduled to compete on the first day during the preliminary stages with some very tough draws on the cards. The overwhelming opinion from officials and spectators was that the South Africa team competitors had all performed beyond expectation in the open division.

The Elite World Championships saw a number of competitors in the Junior and Seniors division with 2018 IFT Champion JP Naude taking silver in his division. Naude was awarded his certificate by former World Champion Shihan Fransico Filhio and congratulated by 8th Dan and member of the IKO Executive Committee Shihan Kenny Uytenboghaardt.
